College and career planning is part of every student’s education journey in Milwaukee Public Schools. From October 21–25, 2024, the district will highlight Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Students can expect a variety of activities throughout the week and should plan to take part.

Below is a sampling of activities that students can enjoy as they make plans for college and career training. View a list of all activities at mpsmke.com/hbcuweek.

All Week: Staff are encouraged to wear HBCU and fraternity/sorority paraphernalia.

Monday: Students should learn about scholarships, internships, and other financial resources by visiting the United Negro College Fund and the Thurgood Marshall Fund websites. Graduating seniors should also create their ID for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so they are ready when the application opens.

Tuesday: Students are encouraged to take a virtual HBCU tour and visit the HBCU webpage.

Wednesday: High school students and parents are encouraged to attend the UNCF Parent Workshop. Click here to register.

Thursday: High school students are encouraged to attend the UNCF Empower Me Tour. Learn about colleges, financial aid, scholarships, and more.

Friday: Students can learn about new opportunities by visiting the website of African-American Greek Letter Organizations (fraternities/sororities) that support scholastic achievement and equity.
