The purpose of the Wedgewood Park Physical and Health Education course is to develop well-rounded healthy individuals, who are equipped with the skills and knowledge to make proper choices. Students will explore a variety of activities, which will allow them to see the importance of leading a lifestyle that promotes good health and choices. Students will see how the choices they make today will affect them later on in life. They will also be encouraged to develop knowledge, critical thinking and reflection skills, a sense of responsibility, as well as interpersonal and self-motivational skills which in turn support the learner profile. Fair play, cooperative learning, teamwork, equal opportunity, tolerance and respect for self and others will be stressed through various activities.
Activities and lessons will be student centered. Students will develop basic skills which are transferable to other situations, become effective problem solvers during group and individual work, learn to set realistic goals, and be able to evaluate theirs own gains as well as those of their peers.
