Visual Arts
The goal of the Wedgewood Park Visual Arts course is to allow students the opportunity to view art as an expression of the world around them. Students will be exposed to various art movements and styles, which have helped to shape their surrounding world. Art terminology will also be introduced along with various media as they work through the creation process. This will be done through the utilization of a variety of projects and activities, which will allow the students to create original pieces of art based on units studied during this course.
The content, instructional strategies and assessments in this course support the learner profile in terms of building inquiry and knowledge, developing critical thinking skills as well as the practice of reflection. These skills support the student in becoming an open-minded communicator. The topics and guiding questions throughout this course provide multiple opportunities for students to challenge themselves and their peers to elaborate on ideas and find innovative means of expression.
Performing Arts
The goal of the Wedgewood Park Performing Arts course is to allow students the opportunity to view music as a universal language. Students will be introduced to music terminology as well as how to read and write music. This will be done through the utilization of a variety of activities including composing metered rhythms using the proper count and musical characters, exploring and working with a diverse selection of musical genres, as well as multiple performance opportunities.
The content, instructional strategies and assessments in this course support the learner profile in terms of building inquiry and knowledge, developing critical thinking skills as well as the practice of reflection. All of which support the student in becoming an open-minded communicator.
