The vision of WCLL is that we will be the first choice for families in Milwaukee providing a culture for learning. We offer numerous experiential educational opportunities for our students through diverse partnerships and rigorous acadmic endeavors so our students can succeed in today’s global society.
High Schools Early Admissions
Early Admissions is an opportunity to students in Grade 8 to apply to all participating Milwaukee Public High Schools.
Start by visiting the https://mps.milwaukee.k12.wi.us/en/Schools/How-to-Apply/Virtual-Early-Admissions.htm on our website and participate in the Virtual Open House at the schools you wish to obtain more information. Open Houses will be recorded and available for viewing after the event.
Every Eighth-grade student in MPS is expected to complete an online application for selection to the high schools of their choosing. The only exceptions for this are schools that have both 8th and 9th grades. Any top-grade student who is not accepted to a school through Early Admissions will be assigned to the closest school to their residence with available seats.
All MPS Eighth graders will need to participate in an online writing activity in October, the results of which will be used for criterion when applying to a select criteria school. Non-MPS students will need to register to complete the writing assessment. Select criteria schools include Ronald Reagan IB High School, Rufus King IB High School, Milwaukee High School of the Arts, Riverside University High School, and Golda Meir High School. These schools will review student attendance, report card grades, writing assessment, standardized scores for ELA and math, as well as other factors determined by the school (middle year IB, audition, etc.). These criteria are added together to establish a composite score.
Guidance counselors and schools support staff should be monitoring which students who have applied and working to ensure that all parents have been afforded the opportunity to apply online. MPS Parents must apply online through the Parent Portal. Directions for creating a Parent Portal are linked on mConnect.
School selections will be mailed to parents during the second week of December.
If you have any questions regarding the application or selection processes, please contact Michael Spidell at 475-8944 or http://spidelmg@milwaukee.k12.wi.us.
