Vieau School offers a One-way Bilingual Dual Language program. Through this program, native Spanish-speaking students use their primary language and English to learn content and language. Nearly 95% of the Vieau population is Hispanic, with 41% learning English as a Second Language (ESL). Based on these percentages, it is critical that Vieau offers a variety of strong bilingual programs in order to cater to young language learners and their families. Our bilingual program prepares students to become literate in English and Spanish through the use of the Teaching for Biliteracy pedagogical framework (Beeman & Urow, 2013), which promotes and facilitates the development of two languages.
