At Barack Obama School, students are afforded the opportunity to seek guidance in the areas of personal/social growth, academic strengths and weaknesses and career development by visiting our school counselor(s). These professional educators cater to students of all ages and developmental levels, ensuring that each learner is treated as an individual with unique talents. During the elementary years, school counselors lend an ear to students and offer advice as they build self-awareness and confidence and develop personal character values and life skills. As they advance to middle school, students rely on school counselors to help them understand how biological changes affect their outlook on life and education. Ultimately, school counselors help students navigate their future and achieve their goals.
School counselors collaborate with parents, teachers, administration and students in an effort to provide proactive support, guidance and feedback that engages all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to help students achieve academic, personal and social success. When students face challenges such as behavioral issues or academic hurdles, school counselors offer mentoring and assistance in overcoming these obstacles. The assistance provided by professional school counselors aligns with Barack Obama School’s mission to prepare students as they transition from different stages of their live, such as childhood, adolescence and eventually, adulthood.
