At the Milwaukee School of Languages, Spanish is offered from 6th grade through 12th grade. The Full-Immersion program is for Spanish students that attended Milwaukee Spanish Immersion School (K-5), or various other elementary schools with Spanish programs.
The Full-Immersion Program
In the Full-Immersion program, students in grades 6 to 8 continue to be immersed in the Spanish language learning in their Reading/Language Arts as well as Social Studies. In grades 6 and 7 students receive their Math instruction in Spanish , 6th-8th grade social studies taught in Spanish, and also Spanish language courses in 6th-8th grades. This allows students to gain a lot of classroom immersion in Spanish, and this continues into the high school with 9th and 10th grade Civics and World History which are also taught in Spanish. Full-Immersion students in the 9th and 10th grades also have Advanced Language courses taught in Spanish, and take college level courses in Spanish when they are juniors: AP Spanish Language & Culture and AP Spanish Literature & Culture.
College Level Spanish Courses Taught at MSL
In high school, when Full-Immersion Spanish students become juniors, they take AP (Advanced Placement) Spanish Language & Culture. Seniors that have taken AP Spanish Language and Culture can then take AP Spanish Literature and Culture in order to earn more college credits in this class where students learn about the literature of the Spanish speaking world starting from Medieval times through the 21st century.
