Last week, the HS Band, Orchestra, and Choir all performed at the WSMA District Large Group Festival with many schools and ensembles of their peers. Both the Band and the Orchestra scored straight 1s from all 3 judges, which is the highest rating possible! The choir got robbed and received 1, 2, 2 from the judges, despite being the strongest HS choir MSL has had in the last 5 years. Seriously, one of them told the choir to ‘walk like a sigma’ as part of their feedback to improve posture! Anyways, if you see any of our musicians in the hallways, please congratulate them on a job very well done!
“May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health awareness plays a crucial role in reducing stigma, encouraging early intervention and fostering empathy and understanding. By normalizing conversations around mental health, it nurtures a more compassionate society where individuals feel empowered to seek help, leading to improved mental wellbeing.”
Did you know that 1 in 6 U.S. youth have a mental health condition, but only half receive treatment?
50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24.
Throughout the month, Hope Squad will host different activities to promote mental health awareness so continue to listen to morning announcements for upcoming events. ”
Congrats to both middle school soccer teams for winning their first games of the season on Saturday. Congrats to John, James, and Omar for scoring goals for the 8th grade team. Middle school softball lost a hard game on Saturday too. Kamille did great pitching, Kamaria showed off her new skills as catcher and DJ had an in the park home-run. Check out the middle school sports bulletin board or the TVs around the school to see when each team plays next. GO HAWKS!!
