School governance councils (SGC), now called School Engagement Councils (SEC) were introduced in MPS in 1997 as a forum for parents, teachers, community members, and principals to engage in continued analysis and improvement of school policies, curriculum, educational goals, and general student well-being. While the council works together with administration on school climate and budgetary issues, their decision-making authority is advisory. SEC’s are not an extension of or replacement for the PTA. Council participation is on a voluntary basis and members are selected via interest in participating.
