From Milwaukee Public Schools:
Students, families, staff, and community members are urged to take part in important discussions about an expected budget shortfall for public schools. All are invited to offer feedback.
Wisconsin public schools are facing budget concerns because of insufficient state funding. Had state funding kept pace with inflation, MPS would have more than $200 million in additional support annually. Also, students with disabilities, who make up 19% of the MPS student population, are significantly underfunded by the state by at least $50 million annually.
At the sessions, MPS staff will explain how the district is funded and present options to protect the educational resources MPS students deserve. There will be time to ask questions, discuss issues, and hear possible solutions. Spanish interpretation will be available.
Virtual meetings will be on Wednesday, December 13, from 12:00–1:00 p.m. and 5:30–6:30 p.m. Please register online in advance for virtual meetings.
An in-person meeting will be on Saturday, December 16, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. at Milwaukee High School of the Arts, 2300 W. Highland Ave., Milwaukee.
