Culinary Arts Courses

Through a partnership with the Bartolotta Restaurants, SURG Restaurant Group, Hospitality Democracy, the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and many others throughout the community, chef mentors will join certified teachers in a newly-renovated kitchen to guide JMAC juniors and seniors through the two-year, nationally-recognized ProStart® culinary arts program. At the end of the program, students will be prepared to directly enter the workforce as trained chefs or attend college for further training.

Enrichment and Career Programs

Youth Health Service Corps Student led group that sponsors the school community wide blood drives. They also work with the Area Health Coalition to expose students to health careers and education with field trips to the Medical College of WI.  A joint partnership with Wisconsin Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) YHSC provides hands on skills training and field experience opportunities for students interested in completing certifications in the health field.

Grow Your Own Grow Your Own is a collaborative effort of a number of MPS and suburban schools to encourage high school students to become teachers. UWM is in the process of launching a number of introductory teaching courses this spring semester for the Grow Your Own students. Other dual enrollment courses — which would allow high school students to earn college credit — are planned at UWM and MATC for the fall of 2020.More information about the Grow Your Own Program can be found here: https://uwm.edu/education/growing-future-teachers/

Police Explorer Program JMAC students can also decide to participate in the Police Explorer Program. It is a program designed for students 14-18 years of age who are interested in Law Enforcement Careers. The Explorer program helps build understanding, provides role models, and helps to develop young people interested in law enforcement careers through training and hands-on programs. Students at JMAC will work with the District Four police department to complete the program.

Fire Cadet and EMT Program Students at JMAC have the opportunity to join the Milwaukee Fire Cadet Program. Students join a cohort and spend two years working towards a career in the fire department. Fire Cadets, while still in high school, begin work towards an associate degree by completing college credits while maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA in their high school classes. At the end of the program, after completing and passing training, students will be ready to join the fire department as full time EMT employees. Tuition reimbursement is available.

Credit Recovery & GEO-02 Programming

JAMC offers alternative programs for students who are credit deficient in their junior and senior years of high school. This includes GED Option #2 (GED-O2) and Edgenuity Credit Recovery.
