NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
Our school library has been busy hosting literature study groups to celebrate Native American Heritage Month. Students in primary and elementary classes used literature as a vehicle to learn about Native American History, explore issues affecting Native American people today, and learn about how cultural traditions keep Native American communities strong and vibrant. Classrooms also prepared land acknowledgments to pay respect to the elders and ancestors past whose culture and traditions have shaped this land. We are so thankful to have the support of our school librarian Ms. Raasch, who uses contemporary literature to enrich our school community!
OCCUPATION SPOTLIGHT
MacDowell’s Green Team Occupation maintains the gardens around our school, composts food from the lunchroom, runs the recycling program, and grows plants for classrooms. Students are learning environmental science while being of service to our school community.
