Richard Kluge School, the creative arts specialty school for MPS’ northwest region, offers families a rigorous standards-based academic program with emphasis on attaining proficiency in all subjects. The AGR program provides a low student-to-teacher ratio in our K5 classes. Mobile laptop labs, iPads and smart boards ensure that Kluge students are connected to the technology they will need to succeed. Kluge offers its students specialist-taught art, music, and physical education classes along with additional arts activities thanks to grants and our community partners. We partner with RSVP to bring tutoring into many of our classrooms. Kluge also offers an English as a Second Language (ESL) program and extensive services for medically fragile students.
Conceptual Schoolyard Redevelopment Plan
Fundraising is underway to support the realization of Richard Kluge Creative Arts School’s conceptual schoolyard redevelopment plan.
Kluge’s conceptual plan calls for removal of approximately 58,000 sq. ft. of asphalt and replacing it with new green space and mixed-use recreation and educational areas. The design includes two new outdoor classrooms with performance area, raised bed gardens, porous pavement, and the addition of 60 stormwater trees. The inclusion of a variety of native plantings allow for unique spaces on the schoolyard that can represent natural Wisconsin ecosystems, complete with student-created signage. Additional rainwater harvesting may be possible to further manage stormwater where it falls and provide irrigation for nearby plantings. The plan manages approximately 252,000 gallons of stormwater per rain event.
