Favorite Teaching Experience: My very first year as a Substitute Teacher, I sat down to read aloud with a small group of elementary students and I begin to ask questions about the book. One of my second grade students raised her hand and said “Ms. Jackson this is not about the book, but you got on one blue sock and one black sock”. She was correct! That experience taught me that our students pay more attention than we think.
Why I like Teaching at Dr. King: Our school is family oriented; Principal Hayes often jokes with our scholars. For instance she likes to tell them she is the grandmother of the school. I love that we express concern for our scholars education. We love and respect the families we serve. It doesn’t hurt that I love our leadership as well.
Fun Fact: As an ice breaker before we start class I like to mimic funny celebrities and have the students guess who I am. The students like this, and it sparks a good conversation before we start our classroom work.
