Dr. King School is now a Community School and we value parental involvement in every aspect of learning. Students achieve more when parents take part in their education, expanding their support system beyond the classroom walls. The staff and teachers at Dr. King School strive to create and maintain regular open communication with families. We extend a hand to parents, inviting them to join us in improving and celebrating their child’s learning and success.
Parents are welcome to visit their child’s classroom to observe or assist the teacher as a parent volunteer. Through classroom visits, parents maintain awareness and knowledge of the Dr. King curriculum and classroom projects. We also invite parents to participate in school-wide programs, including Career Day, Award Days, Open House, the Black History Program, and the Kwanzaa Program to name a few.
As a reflection of how much we value parent input, we encourage and invite parents to participate in our Community School Leadership Team and/or Dr. King’s Family Team. Our Community School Leadership Team meets every 3rd Thursday of the month at 10:00 AM; Our Family Team meets every second Wednesday of the month at 5:00 PM. All parents and guardians/family members are strongly encouraged to join. Various school-related topics are covered. Child care is provided during meetings.
Parent participation and commitment to education do not go unnoticed at Dr. King School. Volunteers are recognized during Staff Appreciation Day and also at the year-end Awards Assembly.
