Families

Hello parents and guardians,

My name is Ms. Davis the Parent Coordinator at Kilbourn School. I am here to connect you with our school staff and community resources.

Here at Kilbourn, we believe that parents serve as the first and most important educators in a child’s life. Education begins at home and our staff strives to build upon the basic foundation and values instilled in young learners before they attend school. Families are essential to a child’s success both inside and outside the classroom. For this reason, Kilbourn provides endless opportunities for parents to be active in their child’s education. A variety of meetings, events and activities are held during the year to keep you, the parent and guardians involved at Kilbourn.  Your involvement is critical for a child to succeed academically and grow emotionally. You can support the Kilbourn community by:

  • Ensuring that your child arrives to school on time every day (7:20 a.m.);
  • Calling the Kilbourn office when your child is absent at (414) 393-4500;
  • Ensuring that your child gets the proper amount of sleep every night;
  • Checking your child’s bookbag every day;
  • Reading with your child daily;
  • Assisting your child with homework;
  • Dressing your child appropriately according to the weather;
  • Offering assistance in the classrooms;
  • Attending field trips;
  • Being an active member of the PTO.

Attendance

Attendance is very important at Kilbourn Elementary.  We strive to reach 98% attendance or better each day.  Please make sure that your child(ren) are at school, on time, every day.  The school day starts at 7:20am and ends at 2:20 pm.  If your child(ren) will be absent, please make sure to let the office know.  You can call the attendance line directly at (414) 393-4500. Thank you for supporting your child(ren)’s attendance at school!

Governance Council

The Governance Council is given a variety of responsibilities and meets monthly to discuss school-wide policies, the Kilbourn School budget and the Educational Plan.

Classroom Assistance/Volunteering

Parents and guardians are encouraged to come to Kilbourn and assist teachers in their classrooms. This allows children to combine support from home with support at school, making for positive results. Parents must make arrangements with our family assistant, Mrs. Davis, prior to coming to help in the classroom.

Field Trip Assistance/Volunteering

To ensure the safest learning experience for all students, teachers may enlist the use of volunteers to serve as chaperones on field trips. This is a valuable service for which the Kilbourn staff is very grateful. Parent volunteers are given established procedures to provide structure and accountability and to keep students safe when they are away from school.

Parent Teacher Organization

Parents are encouraged to attend Kilbourn’s monthly Parent Teacher Organization (P.T.O.) meetings. During scheduled meetings, parents become involved in planning, reviewing and improving the school educational plan, school budget and schedule of school wide activities.

Special Education Leadership Institute

These sessions are for Families looking to gain the skills necessary to ensure their child’s journey to success in school. Look for information on upcoming location, dates and times.  Breakfast refreshments will be provided and child care (provided upon request). For more information contact Ms. Davis, Parent Coordinator at 414-393-4559.
