The purpose of the SEC is to provide a forum for parents, teachers, community members, students and principals to work together in providing continued analysis and improvement of public school policies, curriculum and School Improvement Plan. The council’s decision-making authority is advisory with respect to all duties, powers and responsibilities, with the sole exception of the council’s authority and responsibility to submit a signature page with its school’s annual budget and the school’s annual School Improvement Plan. Council participation is on a voluntary basis via a school-based election process. The council is not intended to replace a parent organization.
