The mission of the Milwaukee Public Schools Head Start Program is to serve all eligible children and families by providing a range of high quality preschool experiences and comprehensive family services. Our staff is committed to developing compassionate partnerships with families to support them in meeting their needs and goals.

We offer a comprehensive family-focused program with the goal of promoting school readiness in young children.

The Head Start Program is beneficial to all children and participating adults, including children with special needs, bilingual children, homeless, and children in foster/kinship care.

A goal of the Head Start Program is to ensure young children are “school ready” and prepared to learn. Activities are directed toward developing skills and knowledge in the eleven domains of learning.

Head Start is a family and community focused program. The family and community are directly involved in the operation, governance and evaluation of the program.

Wellness is recognized as a significant contributor to each child’s ability to thrive and develop. Accordingly, health screenings evaluate the child’s overall health status. Regular health check-ups and good practices in oral health, hygiene, personal care and safety are incorporated in the program.
