The words will be in Spanish and the music will be universal at the 2024 MPS Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. The event takes place Saturday, October 12, at South Division High School with the theme of “The Music that Unites Us” / “La música que nos une.”
The celebration will start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and end at 12:00 p.m. at South Division, 1515 W. Lapham Blvd. Admissions is free and open to the public. Games and art activities for children will be available.
Cultural displays about Spanish-speaking countries, created by Milwaukee Public Schools students, will be on view. Attendees also can take in music and dance performances by MPS students and by the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra Steel Band, which counts MPS students among its members.
The countries that will be featured by students at the celebration on Saturday will be Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Venezuela.
