Due to the labor shortage nation-wide, we are struggling to find Camp instructors and another Director so we can open the upper campus camp location. As we locate and hire new staff, we will open to full capacity at both campuses. If you know anyone who would like to work in camp, please contact Shelby Moen, Camp Director, at (414) 935-0732 or moenml@milwaukee.k12.wi.us.
Camp runs through the Milwaukee Recreation Department and is a separate entity from MPS. Students who attend camp pay a fee. This year, to off-set the number of students needing camp and the shortage of staff, paraprofessionals who work for MPS – not Camp – will supervise students before school only. This is free to students and is for those families who must have childcare. This is how child care will work:
Upper Campus students (1st-8th grade) will be offered before school supervision by paras starting at 7:00 am. We have a shuttle that will bring students to the lower campus if parents would like to pick-up their child at that location when school ends at 4:10. There is no after school care for upper campus students. Before school Supervision is offered on the ground level at the upper campus. Parents must ring the backdoor facing Potter Street for drop-off and pick-up. No one is available to answer the front door before school.
Lower Campus K5 students will be supervised before school by paras starting at 7:00 am. K3/k4 students will pay for camp before school and for wrap around care at 11:55. All K3-K5 students will pay for camp after school.
Camp is offered through the Milwaukee Recreation Department. We offer multiple sessions to enrolled children at Bay View Montessori School. Enrollment is very limited due to staff shortages. Payment is required for your child’s session(s) on the Friday before or Monday morning of each week.
W2 (Wisconsin Shares Child Care) payments are accepted. **Please contact us if you have any questions or need assistance in obtaining information regarding the Wisconsin Shares program**
Please note: K3 and K4 children, who attend Camp after mid-day dismissal or use AM wrap care before afternoon school, must bring either a cold lunch from home, or receive free hot lunch from school.
A snack and nap are provided in the wrap-around afternoon camp sessions for K3/K4. Students are now offered dinner as well. Students participate in recess every day, weather permitting. During inclement winter weather, children receive recess in the gym based on availability, twice a day.
Our camp staff is CPR/First Aid certified and participate in recreational trainings throughout the year.
Thank you!
