Mentors are life coaches who encourage us in making important life choices. They share their own experiences and make a big impact by connecting us to opportunities that we would otherwise never have. They help us explore, and very often, direct us to make a career-building plan in order for our dreams to become reality.
BT’s Career-Life Mentors, sponsored by WRTP-Big Step, leave their job sites each month and work with students interested in careers that include: Construction, plumbing, electrical, masonry, welding, insulation, and heating and cooling.
“The real goal is to educate and help students understand what it takes and how to get on a path to a high-paying, rewarding career in the building trades”,said Dan Bukiewicz, Bradley Tech Commission member and president of the Milwaukee Trades Association.
Mr. Bukiewicz recruits the mentors and plans the monthly activities for the group.
“It’s been really motivations for the students,” said Scott Sommer, BT Industry Liaison. “Each mentor is building a significant relationship with their assigned student. The students look forward to each monthly meeting, and better understand the connection between high school success and career readiness.”
Growing the mentor programs at BT is a big goal of the school and more students want to be part of a Career-Life Mentor experience. You volunteer once per month, for about one hour. We can work around your schedule. All careers and experiences are welcome. You will be rewarded with abundant appreciation from the students who will remember the impact you made in their lives.
