Visual Arts
Visual Arts is a four-year college-bound matriculating program that begins freshman year with a year-long Art Foundations course. In years following students take semester-long courses that build on the base of Art Foundations. These include Sculpture, Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking courses with 2 levels of each course. Once a student has completed Art Foundations, and two levels of any art class, he or she becomes eligible to participate in AP Studio. Upon successful completion of AP Studio, and an independent portfolio review Art students can earn up to five college credits.
Design
Design is our newest program that will continue to grow over the next few years. At present students can enter this program of study during freshman year through a course called Computer Applications in Art. This course is designed to introduce students to the creative potential of the computer through the context of art and design and will provide the opportunity to explore media-based software. Students learn to use a variety of digital painting, drawing, typographic, and desktop publishing software. In addition, it encourages students to use a combination of traditional and digital design practices. In addition to this class, students have the opportunity to take advanced-level courses ending with AP Studio Art with an emphasis in design.
