The Engineering Program has been developed in cooperation with the National Academy Foundation (NAF), and Project Lead the Way (PLTW). Visit the BVHS Partners Page to learn more.
The program has been designed to answer a need for well-trained engineers by educating high school students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math (STEAM), as well as preparing them for post-secondary careers.
We stress developing problem-solving and critical-thinking skills as well as the development of maker skills. This includes the use of a range of tools and techniques for making electrical, mechanical, digital, and physical models and products.
Year 1: Introduction to Engineering Design
Using 3-D computer modeling software, students learn the design process and they solve design problems as they develop, analyze, and create product models.
Year 2: Principles of Engineering
Students explore technology systems and engineering processes to find out how math, science, and technology help people.
Year 3: Digital Electronics
Students use computer simulation to learn about the logic of electronics as they design, test, and construct circuits and devices.
Year 4: Engineering Design & Development
Guided by community mentors, teams of students work together to research, design, and construct solutions to engineering problems.
