Principal’s Message

“The Best School in the City”.

My name is Dr. Z. Walker and I am the proud principal of “The Best School in the City”. Auer Avenue Community School is located in the heart of the north side of Milwaukee.  We serve students in grades K3-5. We have high expectations for all students in the areas of academics, behavior, and respect.  Our school strives to achieve its mission and vision to create a school community of learners that engage in successful learning and enriching experiences to benefit the whole child.  Students will reach or succeed proficiency by expanding their mental, physical and academic skills to help grow our community into college and career ready citizens.

Auer Avenue Community School strives to provide instructional programs that motivate our students to become life-long learners. We look to our parents to work as partners with the school in promoting a strong united team for the development of our students. Our staff is dedicated and ready to support your child with differentiated instructional methods, small group instruction, and one on one assistance, interventions, and engaging activities that will help all students become successful learners. Our commitment to students’ academic success is the first order of business. Auer Avenue is a Community School that works with local community partners, businesses, neighborhood associations, and local officials to provide quality educational services and programs to our students.

We work diligently to improve our students’ self-esteem; as well as, build character and confidence to become ethical citizens and leaders. We believe our students should be enthusiastic, creative thinkers who are able to use available resources and technology to solve any problem which they encounter.

The staff at Auer understands the demands put on students that are quite different than previous years. We focus on developing good relationships between staff, students, home and school.  These connections can make your child’s experience in school enjoyable and ensures you are always informed about your child’s progress. Success in school requires thoughtful organization and commitment from all stakeholders, and having 95% attendance or better is the key.

Parents are welcomed to become involved in their child’s educational journey by participating in school events and activities.  There are monthly parent events, student council activities, adult “Big on Books” monthly book club, Healthy living-Children’s Hospital activities, after-school tutoring, sports teams, parent resource center, connections with the Children’s Outing Association (located directly behind our school building), community events and youth sports. We have activities for our parents as well.

Thank you for visiting our webpage.  Feel free to explore the information on this website. If you have questions or need further information feel free to contact us at (414) 875-4500.

Remember, you are always welcome to visit Auer Avenue Community School, the “Home of the Bears.”

Sincerely,

Z. Walker, Ed.D.
