Community Service

Audubon High School

Community Service Guidelines

Audubon High School upholds community and service as fundamental pillars of our school. To participate in Audubon High’s Graduation Ceremony, students must complete 100 hours of Community Service; this includes the 25 hours of Service Learning that Milwaukee Public Schools requires for Graduation.

How can community service be given?

  • Direct Service – verified actions that benefit our community or environment. Seniors can serve as a class intern with a cooperating AHS Staff Member for a total of 50 hours per semester.
  • Representation – active involvement in school sponsored extracurricular activities or athletics. Students must end the semester or season with 85% attendance or better, and with “good standing.” Students can earn a total of 10 hours per season.
  • Advocacy – speaking or demonstrating on behalf of a cause to prompt action on an issue to social concern.
  • Research – analyze and report on data from varied sources to influence policies or practices.

What qualifies as community service?

  • service hours must take place outside of academic class time,
  • service must be completed through a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or local government agency (for example, school district, library, police department),
  • service must be completed under the supervision of an adult at the organization,
  • service may not be part of a criminal justice sanction,
  • you cannot be paid for your service.

How to record Community Service?

Students will need to log Community Service Hours through the Community Service Form located on Class of… Google Classrooms. Students can use the Verfication Form to record hours with their community partner.
